Bridge repair works to take place

MAINTENANCE work to a bridge in Sandhills Avenue in Leicester will take place next month.

Stonework on the parapet of the bridge, in the Hamilton area of the city, will be repaired and replaced, with scaffolding erected on both sides of the bridge to facilitate the works. The footways over the bridge will also be resurfaced, and minor carriageway repairs will be carried out.

The repairs will ensure the route can continue to be safe for pedestrians and traffic.

Work will begin on Monday 2nd September, and is expected to last for seven weeks.

Advance warning signs will be put in place on nearby approach roads, and signs will be on site throughout the works.

Traffic on Sandhills Avenue will be restricted to one lane over the bridge with two-way temporary lights in operation for the duration of the works. Footway closures over the bridge will also be in place, with pedestrians diverted via a segregated, enclosed route on the carriageway. Only one footway will be closed at any one time.

Pearl Way, the subway footpath that runs under the bridge, will remain open for the duration of the works.

The works will cost £164k and are being funded from the city council’s annual highways maintenance budget.
