A FREE health and wellbeing event is taking place later this week to mark No Smoking Day.
The event, at Team Hub community centre in New Parks, takes place on Wednesday 11 March – No Smoking Day – from 9.30am-3.30pm.
The event is open to everyone, whether you’re looking to quit smoking, become more active or eat more healthily.
On the day, residents will be able to:
- Sign up for free stop smoking support, which includes free nicotine replacement products and 12 weeks of specialist help;
- Have a free health check, including blood pressure, blood sugar and weight;
- Try some fun and accessible physical activity taster sessions;
- Take part in interactive healthy eating sessions, with free recipe cards to take away;
- Access friendly wellbeing advice and guidance from local professionals including the council’s Active Leicester and public health staff; the fire service, social prescribers, oral health professionals, and drug and alcohol support.
Cllr Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor for health, said: “This free, drop-in event aims to make looking after your health feel less daunting and more achievable.
“We’ve got lots of local services that can help – and they’ll be on hand at this event to answer questions and provide advice. Often, people don’t realise the amount of free support there is out there to help you stop smoking, make healthier food choices or take up some gentle exercise. Events like this one help us to show what’s on offer.”
